After thinking a lot....I changed my idea of writing an article on rather passive, classical and monotonous places of importance in Delhi, for example-Red Fort,Humayun's Tomb,Lotus Temple, etc.Because they can be found easily. Moreover,Google maps are there to help you all guys, isn't it.Rather,I shall take up a few places which are much less spoken about.Though I personally believe that these places are equally
adventurous and interesting to wander around.
Turkman Gate.Only few people must be knowing about it.Especially, the local residents near the site.It is a gate which lies near the tomb of Shah Turkman. Now,people might call me crazy, because it's just a gate.Let me tell you my friends,it's one of the four gates of Shahjahanabad, built during the reign of Shahjahan in 17th century.Yes,the very same Shahjahan,in whose reign,Taj Mahal was established. You may find an auto rickshaw or a bus easily from Chandni Chowk,Old Delhi.
Baradari at Qudsia Garden.A fort where the emperor Ahmad Shah and his mother (Queen mother) Qudsia Begum lived. Both were executed here itself, during British period. It comprises of a big garden enclosed by a wall and sandwiched by two doom shaped structures. It served as a hiding place for the emperor at the time when the Britishers bought their troops and blasted off the Kashmiri Gate.
Minar at Hasthal Village.Again a monument established by Mughal emperor Shahjahan.Located in Hasthal village of Nazafgarh, near Uttam Nagar area in West Delhi.A 3-storeyed building measuring as high as 17 metres, stands on an octagonal platform.Entire structure is made of red sandstone.Another interesting thing-approximately,hundred meters away from the minar, one can find a double storeyed building. This served as a resort for Shahjahan,at times he went for hunting.
Dara Shikoh Library. It is located at Kashmere Gate, inside the campus of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprasta University.Dara Shikoh was the eldest son of Shahjahan. It has housed many mughal emperors(for short intervals) and also became the residence for many British officials later. The building was restored after independence and has seen a lot of modifications in the recent years.Though it has been made a library,in olden days it was used for housing purposes.

Mutiny Memorial is located on northern ridge constructed during the British period. The memorial consists of a tapering tower of indifferent gothic design raised on a high base of local hard stone paved with red sand stone. The tower is octagonal externally and is circular internally. The tower was erected in 1863 in memory of the soldiers of the Delhi Field Force who were killed in action or succumbed to diseases between 30th May and 20th September, 1857.
So,now I may say that for all of those who are planning to start a Delhi tour,I have added 5 more sites to visit.Lets see how many more facts one can unearth, from such places.
As far as the "Stern" truths are concerned,I shall list them one by one:-
1.India being much advanced, rape cases still count to thousands. So,visitors take proper guidance and do not fall into the traps of vendors, rickshaw pullers, auto rickshaw drivers, any third person, whose intentions are not fair. Please,it's a big request,if ever you face any problems refer to www.tourism.gov.in.Government is there to help you.
2.Traffic is a big problem, not only in Delhi, but all over India.Old Delhi is much more congested and densely
populated compared to New Delhi.Delhi Metro would be a better option to opt for.Within few minutes you can
travel from one part of the city to the other. If you face any problem with the routes then refer to
www.delhimetrorail.com.
3.Pickpockets and snatchers are scattered everywhere in the city.Beware of them.
4.Take care of your children.Trafficking has still not been eradicated completely from India.
I guess rest of the points I need not tell you. So,what are you waiting for?Just pack your bags and start early in the morning.
ENJOY TOURING....:)
